If you've followed my work for the last five years, you know that since November of 2020, I've run my photography business under the name Hannah Rose Photography. This year, when I decided to open my own studio, I decided to split my photography services into two separate entities - one primarily for equine photography, including horse shows and horse portraits, and one primarily for my human clients, including seniors, weddings, newborns, and families. Because equine photography has been the bulk of my business shared online under the name Hannah Rose Photography, I decided to keep that business name for my equine work.
But that left me with the struggle of finding a new name for my portrait work. I started making lists of all the things that I felt defined me. Two things felt very important - my love for animals and that I'm a night owl. As I brainstormed, I realized one of my horses show name is Midnight Magic Trix. He's one of the first horses I showed, and is a favorite in the barn. Would it be crazy if I named my new photo studio after him? The longer I thought on it, the more I loved the start of his name, Midnight Magic. It represented my night owl side - if you're a client, there is a high probability your photos are being edited at or around midnight! It also represented my start in photography - almost all of my work for my first year in business was in the horse industry, as well as my passion and love for my horses.

I shared the name with my mom, who loved it immediately, then my cousins, who *thought* it was my horse's name, but after hearing the story approved, and then my sister... who thought it sounded a bit like the name of an exotic dancer. (Insert face palm emoji here.) I decided to ignore my sister and started working on the logo. While I love logo work, it typically takes me a looooong time. But for this logo, I finished the whole shabang in one car ride back from Cedar Rapids (thanks, Mom for driving!) In my mind, the logo solidified that I made the perfect choice, and Midnight Magic was born!
